Benzema: “Zidane wants us to enjoy playing football”

Karim Benzema talked to the team’s TV channel about the return of La Liga and also their own return to training.

Benzema has been a key player for Madrid and one of the leaders ever since Cristiano Ronaldo left the squad and coach Zidane has always considered him a crucial player for his team.

“We can’t wait to get back to playing and winning games.

The first match, Eibar at home, is hugely important and we’ll give it everything we’ve got,” said Benzema, knowing how important every single game will be for the race for the title.

Los Blancos have been training for the last three weeks and have picked up the pace recently in order to be completely ready for the restart of La Liga.

“It’s not easy to spend two months without touching the ball. We’re in good shape now and we’ll keep working hard together.

“We played a match today and we all felt good. We’re getting closer to a return to La Liga,” he explained.

Benzema also touched on Zidane’s mentality as a coach and his training plan for these past few weeks.

“Zidane wants us to enjoy playing football. We’re starting to use the ball more again this week, after last week was more fitness-based. It’s great to be back with everyone together again and with the ball, because it’s tough to do ball work at home on your own; that was more about gym work and fitness,” said Benzema.

The French attacker also discussed how different it will be to play behind closed doors.

Not a single club will have the support of their fans but Benzema knows that there will be many supporters watching on TV and wanted to send a message to them.

“It’s different playing behind closed doors because we always need the fans behind us but I hope everyone will be supporting us on TV. We know we have to win every game, that’s vital for us and for the club and we’re going to go all out to do so,” concluded the attacker
